JBL Spirohexol Plus 250

The JBL Spirohexol Plus 250 is a remedy for flagellates and hole in the head disease in freshwater fish in fresh and marine water.

hole in the head disease is caused by flagellates of the genus Spironucelus or Protopalina. Under certain conditions, which could not yet be clearly specified, there is a massive increase in the number of flagellates that live in the intestine of the fish. They enter into serious food competition for the minerals with the fish, which then suffers from a lack of minerals. In response to the mineral deficiency, it breaks down its own bone tissue in order to get minerals. Since the fish has the largest bone substance in the head area, massive degradation occurs in this area, which can be seen as holes. The flagellates move to the next body surface. Since the holes created now represent the closest body surface, they can be found at the bottom of the holes. In the past, only the flagellate was responsible for this disease. In fact, however, a combination of mineral deficiency with a massive increase in flagellates leads to hole formation. In South American and African cichlids from areas of origin with low-mineral (soft) water, greyish, hole-like phenomena can develop in the head region of the animals; starting from the sensory organs of the sideline organ: hole in the head disease is primarily due to insufficient hygiene and one-sided, vitamin and mineral-poor nutrition, which weaken the animals, which can lead to an increase in the flagellates in the intestine. Tapeworms, roundworms and fish tuberculosis as well as malnutrition can also lead to pitting.

Remedy: The mineral content of the aquarium water is increased by JBL Aquadur. So far, the occurrence of the pitting disease could only be observed in very soft water. The flagellates are then combated in the second step by adding JBL Spriohexol Plus 250.

In order to fight the disease permanently, not only is the right medication necessary, but also an improvement in the water values. The most important measure is the regular water change. The use of a UV-C clarifier also helps to reduce the bacterial bacterial density in the aquarium and improve the living conditions of the fish. The most important water values that need to be checked and optimised if necessary are carbonate hardness (KH), pH (pH value), ammonium (NH4) / ammonia (NH3) and nitrite (NO2). In addition, regular and thorough cleaning of the filter is recommended.

Application
Before and during use, activated carbon must be removed from the filter, UV-C water clarifier, CO2 fertilisation, and additional skimmers and ozonizers in sea water must be switched off. A 50% water change must be carried out before use. During treatment, the aquarium is to be ventilated with a vent stone using a diaphragm pump. JBL Spirohexol Plus 250 should always be added in the morning while observing the animals.

Dose
10 ml / 50 l aquarium water. The bottle should be shaken vigorously for one minute before use.

A detailed treatment plan is included with the product. The first treatment takes about 7 days, after which a 50% water change is required. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated on the 8th day as indicated.

After the start of treatment, the fish should only be fed a reduced amount. Biologically active filters that have been in place for some time can partially suppress the drug. After the treatment, the aquarium water should be filtered over activated carbon for 24 hours to remove drug residues and be treated with bacterial preparations. The ammonium/ammonia and nitrite values should be measured daily during and after treatment.

Warning
The application is not suitable for invertebrates in fresh and saltwater, as well as for cartilaginous fish such as rays and sharks. As a precaution, these should be excluded from treatment. In sea water, treatment in a quarantine tank is recommended. The aquarium can be observed continuously during treatment. If the fish is found to be intolerant, an immediate water change of 50% must be carried out.
