Anubias Hygrophila corymbosa
Big Cherry Leaf
The less demanding stem plant Hygrophila corymbosa, the cherry leaf, also known as the giant water friend, comes from Southeast Asia. The 30 to 50cm high plant is perfect for the background of the aquarium and tolerates soft to hard water.
The cherry leaf Hygrophila corymbosa, which has long been known and popular in the aquarium hobby, originally comes from Southeast Asia. This fast-growing stem plant is perfect for combating algae because its rapid growth robs the annoying algae of the basic nutritional basis.
The robust, beautiful aquarium plant fits perfectly into the background of the aquarium. The cherry leaf responds well to regular pruning and then develops a nice bushy, branched habit.
The shape of the large, wide leaves is reminiscent of cherry leaves. They are pure green, the stems of the giant water friend Hygrophila corymbosa, on the other hand, can turn a little reddish. The cherry leaf looks super beautiful in combination with aquatic plants with filigree foliage, the contrast is really good.
The cherry leaf does not necessarily need an extra supply of CO2, but CO2 is also not harmful. A good supply of nutrients is beneficial to the growth of the heavy eater, and medium to strong light promotes good colouration and compact growth in Hygrophila corymbosa.
In order to propagate this stem plant, you simply stick cut shoots with a little space as cuttings in the bottom of your aquarium.
You can also buy the cherry leaf in our online shop in the XL version for your aquarium. This is especially exciting if you want the tank to look like something immediately and you don't want to wait a long time for the plants to grow.
Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
Especially in newly set up aquariums, the use of undemanding, fast-growing plants in the run-in phase is extremely important and highly recommended, as this prevents stupid algae from appearing in the first place. The cherry leaf is definitely one of the stem plants that are suitable for this.
