The less demanding stem plant Hygrophila corymbosa, the cherry leaf, comes from Southeast Asia. The 30 to approx. 50 cm tall plant is perfect for the background of the aquarium and tolerates soft to hard water.
The cherry leaf Hygrophila corymbosa, which has been well known and popular in aquariums for a long time, originally comes from Southeast Asia. This fast-growing stem plant is perfect for algae control because it takes away the food base from annoying algae due to its rapid growth.
The robust, beautiful aquarium plant fits perfectly in the background of the aquarium. The cherry leaf responds well to regular pruning and then develops a nice, bushy, branched habit.
The shape of the large, broad leaves is reminiscent of cherry leaves. They are purely green, the stems of the Hygrophila corymbosa, on the other hand, can become a little reddish. The cherry leaf looks beautiful in combination with aquatic plants with delicate foliage, the contrast works really well.
The cherry leaf does not necessarily need an extra supply of CO2, but CO2 does not harm either. Medium-strong to strong light promotes good colouring and compact growth in Hygrophila corymbosa.
To grow more of this stem plant, simply cut off shoots and put at a short distance away as an offshoot in the bottom of your aquarium.
You can also buy the cherry leaf in our online shop in the XL version for your aquarium. This is especially exciting when the tank should look developed right away and you don't want to wait long for the plants to get big.
Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
Especially in newly furnished aquariums, the use of undemanding, fast-growing plants in the run-in phase is super important and highly recommended, so algae won't even appear. The cherry leaf is definitely one of the stem plants that are suitable for this.
