Description

The Eheim LAV is a natural lava rock for biological filtering.

EHEIM LAV consists of lava stone and is a pure natural product. The rough, highly porous structure offers the cleaning bacteria very good settlement conditions. Since it is a natural material, the granules or fragments in the packaging are of different sizes.
EHEIM LAV can be washed out and reused. It is suitable for fresh and saltwater.

The main task of the biological filter material is to offer the best settlement conditions for bacterial cultures so that a bacterial lawn develops after a short time. The bacteria feed on dirt particles of all kinds and convert the substances that are critical for the aquarium. After the first cleaning with mechanical filter media (like EHEIM MECH or MECHpro), the most important thing is biological filtering. It ensures clear, healthy water and stable water values.

Our experts recommend:
Never clean or replace the entire biological filter material in one process (and never too thoroughly), because the bacterial cultures must not be completely destroyed, otherwise the resettlement is delayed. The filter baskets in the external filters and the filter modules in the internal filters aqua ball and biopower are ideal for partial cleaning.
