Description

The very easy to care for water moss Vesicularia montagnei comes from Asia. The Christmas moss is only 2 to approx. 5 cm high and is perfect on roots and stones in the foreground and middle ground and tolerates soft to hard water.

The Christmas moss Vesicularia montagnei from Asia is so named because its growth shape is reminiscent of the branches of fir trees: The medium-green, relatively coarse fronds are quite clearly triangular. The aquarium moss grows relatively slowly and makes nice cushions on the hardscape or on flat stones in the foreground.

Christmas moss looks great as a ground cover in the foreground. If you don't want the moss floating around in the aquarium loosely, you can tie it to flat stones. You will then have to cut back the cushions regularly to let them grow very tight.

You can also tie the moss on pieces of roots or rocks in the aquarium. There it forms great cushions and looks totally rustic. Also great: Christmas moss on an aquarium tree gives the image of a beautiful green tree crown. Vesicularia montagnei forms small adherent roots and grows firmly on the ground.

Vesicularia montagnei is a robust and frugal moss and fits into most aquarium setups. It doesn't need CO2, and it still grows properly even under poor lighting. Strong light and CO2 are of course not a problem either.

You can easily multiply water moss by dividing the cushions. You can pull them apart with your fingers, you don't even need scissors.

The Christmas moss in the sterile cup was grown in the laboratory and is therefore completely harmless to plant in the aquarium. It does not bring any inhabitants such as snails or other pests with it, neither bacteria, algae spores nor fungi are on board, and since the moss is grown completely without the use of pesticides, you can insert it directly into the aquarium - even in shrimp tanks.

In addition, you can buy the Christmas moss already tied directly to a root in length S at Olibetta. This size has a length of 20-25 cm.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
Tying up Christmas moss is quite laborious. The best way to get the moss is to chop it up into short pieces and then wrap them around root branches or stones with nylon thread. If that is too time-consuming for you, you can simply use the JBL gel ProHaru Rapid adhesive and glue the pieces on.
