Description

The finely grained black NatureSoil by Oliver Knott consists exclusively of natural soils, which are mechanically shaped into soil granules and then fired at relatively low temperatures for a firmer structure. This active substrate was developed for plant aquariums on behalf of Oliver Knott. The pre-fertilised soil supplies your aquatic plants via the roots with all the important nutrients that provide intensely luminous leaf colours, strong and healthy growth and a vital look. Apart from Oliver Knotts NatureSoil, you do not need anything else in the aquarium set-up - no pills and beads and no complicated soil build-up - just add it to the aquarium and get started.

The finely grained black NatureSoil is suitable for advanced aquascapers and plant aquarians as well as for beginners in the world of aquascaping and plant aquaristics. This vegetable oil suppresses the water hardness and actively lowers the pH value. Many of the hobby aquarium plants prefer soft and slightly acidic water - for them NatureSoil by Oliver Knott is perfect! Also for ornamental fish and shrimps that need soft water, NatureSoil is great as aquarium soil because it pushes the pH down to a slightly acid value below 7 and lowers the carbonate hardness.

The granules of fine-grained black NatureSoil fired at low temperature are stable in the water and do not disintegrate in the aquarium even after a long time. NatureSoil makes the water in the aquarium clear and can bind foreign matter and make it harmless. The finer soil grain size is very well suited as a top layer over a layer of coarser soil in the aquarium, in the foreground roots can grow well, or as a substrate in a nano basin.

Thanks to the shape of the soil granules, the plant roots always receive enough oxygen and nutrients, and the soil does not compact. The effect of the soil increases, even more, when you combine the NatureSoil with a soil filter or floor washer. The good circulation supports the bacterial activity in the soil and helps the important filter bacteria to break down the pollutants in the aquarium water. NatureSoil thus ensures smooth biological stability in the water values.

Oliver Knotts NatureSoil can also be used in the filter as a filter medium. Here, too, the active soil develops its beneficial properties and softens the water.

What amount of NatureSoil do you need for your aquarium?

  • 60 cm: 10 litres
  • 80 cm: 15 litres
  • 100 cm: 25 litres
  • 120 cm: 30 litres

Please note: Active Soil does not need to be rinsed out before use in the aquarium. Hard tap water can lead to fluctuating water hardness and changes in pH when changing the water. Shrimp can be quite sensitive to these phenomena. For this reason, in a plant aquarium with NatureSoil with shrimps, you should use osmosis water and a hardening salt for soft aquarium water such as SaltyShrimp Bee Shrimp Mineral GH + for hard tap water. Aquarium plants and ornamental fish are usually unharmed by such short-term fluctuations.

Burrowing fish such as Corydoras, some L-catfish and perch can cause the soil to be agitated so much that the agitated particles permanently cloud the water. These fish are therefore not really suitable for this soil.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
I developed my NatureSoil out of a passion for plant aquaristics. Here we have a soil product that is really easy to use, so really plug and play: Just dump the soil into your aquarium, distribute and model it, moisten it a bit and start designing - so easy!
