Description

The fine brown NatureSoil by Oliver Knott is a natural product made from natural earth. They are formed into soil granules and briefly fired at low temperatures for a more stable grain structure. Oliver Knott developed this pre-fertilised active substrate, especially for plant aquariums. Soil is pre-fertilised, providing your aquatic plants with all the essential nutrients they need for radiant leaf colours, healthy growth and lush appearance. With Oliver Knotts NatureSoil, soil fertilisers and root fertilisers are not necessary for the aquarium set-up, you can do without a complicated soil structure and simply start working.

The fine brown NatureSoil is suitable for both beginners and advanced users in the world of aquascaping and plant aquaristics. The active soil lowers water hardness and pH. This makes the water in the aquarium especially pleasant for aquarium plants, which prefer soft and slightly acidic water - so for the vast majority of aquatic plants that are common in aquascaping and even in plant aquarium! NatureSoil is also ideal for soft water animals in the plant aquarium, especially for ornamental fish and shrimps, which require a slightly acidic pH below 7 and a low carbonate hardness.

The stable granules of the fine brown NatureSoil are still stable even after a long time in the aquarium. NatureSoil ensures clear water in the aquarium and aquascape and absorbs foreign substances, rendering them harmless. The smaller grain size is perfect as a top layer over coarser soil or as a sole ground in a nano aquarium.

The granule shape ensures that the plant roots get enough oxygen and nutrients, the soil does not compact. The effect is particularly good if you use NatureSoil with a soil filter or floor washes. The loose construction also promotes the bacterial activity of the important filter bacteria, which degrade pollutants in the aquarium and ensure a well-functioning biological system and stability in the water values.

Incidentally, you can also use Oliver Knotts NatureSoil as a filter medium. The active soil also develops its positive properties in the filter.

What amount of NatureSoil do you need for your aquarium?

  • 60 cm: 10 litres
  • 80 cm: 15 litres
  • 100 cm: 25 litres
  • 120 cm: 30 litres

Please note: Never wash active soil before use in the aquarium. Changing water with hard tap water can cause variations in water hardness and pH. Especially shrimp can be sensitive to this. If you want to keep shrimp in your plant aquarium with NatureSoil shrimp, then you should use osmosis water and a hardening salt for soft aquarium water that matches the requirements of your shrimps, such as SaltyShrimp Bee Shrimp Mineral GH +. These fluctuations usually do not hurt your Aquarium dwellers.

Burrowing or digging fish like Corydoras, some L-catfish or perches should not be kept in an aquarium if the active soil is used. Here, the water can be permanently clouded by soil particles by their agitation.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
I developed my NatureSoil with a lot of passion. It is totally easy to use - no complicated setup with a thousand pills and x different substrates, but plug and play: You just add the soil into the aquarium, distribute it nicely, moisten it and then you can start with the design.
