Description

The brown NatureSoil by Oliver Knott is 100% natural. It consists of various natural soils, which are processed into soil granules and then fired at low temperatures. Oliver Knott developed this pre-fertilised soil specifically for plant aquariums and aquascapes. It contains all the nutrients your aquarium plants need for health, lush growth and intense leaf colour. So you can do without soil fertiliser and root fertiliser in the aquarium setup.

NatureSoil is suitable for beginners as well as advanced users in plant aquaristics. The soil softens the water and lowers the pH value, which is particularly beneficial for those aquarium plants that like to have soft and slightly acidic water - by the way, that is the vast majority of common aquatic plants in aquatics and aquascaping! NatureSoil is ideal for planted aquariums with fish, shrimp and other aquarium animals, which prefer a pH below 7 and a low carbonate hardness.

The stable granules do not decompose even after a long time in the aquarium. It can provide clear water in the aquarium and absorb foreign matter. Thanks to the special shape of the granules, the plant roots can be optimally supplied with oxygen-rich water and nutrients.

The good looseness also supports the formation and activity of the filter bacteria that provide biological stability in the aquarium. The coarser soil substrate with a grain size of 4-5 mm is great for large aquariums. If you want to plant plants with finer, short roots in the foreground, we recommend a top layer with the finer version NatureSoil by Oliver Knott with 2-3 mm grain size.

Incidentally, Oliver Knotts NatureSoil can also be used as a filter medium, where it can also influence the water values.

What amount of NatureSoil do you need for your aquarium?

  • 60 cm: 10 litres
  • 80 cm: 15 litres
  • 100 cm: 25 litres
  • 120 cm: 30 litres

Please note: Active Soil should not be washed out before use in the aquarium. With hard tap water, it can lead to fluctuations in the pH when changing the water, which is not particularly well-tolerated. In this case, it is better to work with adjusted water, ie osmosis water and a softening salt suitable for the needs of your shrimp for soft aquarium water, for example, SaltyShrimp Bee Shrimp Mineral GH +. Plants and fish usually do not mind these variations.

Burrowing fish such as Corydoras, some L-catfish or perch should not be placed in aquariums with active Soil. Permanent water turbidity can occur because the fish dig up soil particles.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
My NatureSoil is totally easy to use - put into the aquarium, fill with some water, plant ... Plug and play, so to speak! You can easily create a perfect underwater landscape in your aquarium with this beautiful, high-quality soil without much effort.
