Description

The JBL ClearMec ProCristal i60-200 is a filter cartridge for use in JBL ProCristal i filters and is used to remove nitrate, nitrite and phosphate.

Undesirable phosphorus compounds
Phosphorus (phosphate) are in short supply in natural waters (0.001-0.01 mg / l). Plants have adapted to this deficiency situation during a long evolution and require very little phosphorus for their growth. Strong accumulations of phosphorus compounds, in the aquarium often 100-1000 times their natural value, often lead to the explosive growth of unwanted algae. Regular control of the phosphate content with e.g. the JBL Phosphate Test Sets PO4 and timely use of JBL PhosEx ultra prevents this danger. Values of 0.5 mg / l can be tolerated in the freshwater aquarium; values of less than 0.1 mg / l should be aimed for in the seawater aquarium.

Nitrates and phosphates are the main algae nutrients. If one or both nutrients are removed from the water, algae can no longer grow.
The decomposition or mineralisation process of all organic matter in the aquarium (food and plant residues, fish excretions) takes place via the stages protein-ammonium-nitrite-nitrate. With a well-functioning biological filter system, ammonium and nitrite should not be detectable, only the nitrate content slowly increases. Nitrate is the final stage of mineralisation in the aquarium and is non-toxic to fish in relatively high concentrations. On the one hand, plants can utilise nitrate as a nutrient, but if there is an oversupply, it has a negative impact on plant growth and can have a negative impact on the well-being of sensitive fish. Values above 50 mg / l can also promote undesirable algae growth. Therefore, one should strive to maintain values below 50 mg / l. This can be easily checked with the JBL Nitrate Test Set NO3.

Simple application
JBL ClearMec is a mixture of fired clay balls and special resins. It absorbs nitrate, nitrite and phosphate without removing important trace elements. The clay balls favour the settlement of useful cleaning bacteria. The aquarium water becomes crystal clear and ideal conditions for fish and plants arise. The filter cartridge should be rinsed under running water before use and replaced after 3 months at the latest.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
JBL ClearMec quickly and effectively stabilises unwanted water parameters and thus ensures a beautiful aquarium that you like to look at and in which all fish feel good again!
