Description
Denitrifying bacteria, which rely on oxygen-free (anoxic) conditions, are responsible for nitrate degradation. These conditions cannot be created in conventional filters, which is why there is often too much nitrate in the water. The negative consequences are increased algae growth and increased susceptibility to illness of the aquarium inhabitants.
Söll's nitrate remover is the solution for natural nitrate reduction in the aquarium. The patented filter medium can form bacterial layers with a certain depth, so-called biofilms, which have oxygen-containing and oxygen-free zones.
A slowly degrading carrier material and a faster degrading carbon source. The latter serves the microorganisms as food (co-substrate) for their own metabolism. As a result of the consumption, pores form on the granulate surface, which in this way becomes ever larger and offers the microorganisms an additional colonisation area. Co-substrate and settlement area enable the formation of an efficient biofilm in which an oxygen gradient prevails. In depth, the denitrifying microorganisms find low-oxygen and therefore particularly favourable living conditions.
Söll's nitrate remover thus increases the biomass and metabolic performance of the denitrifiers present in the aquarium. Because the softer biopolymer component breaks down faster, the Söll nitrate remover does not stick. The granules therefore do not have to be moved, but can be used directly in the practical mesh bag.
100 g nitrate remover degrades up to 30 g nitrate and thus contributes to better water quality in the long term.

The nitrate remover also increases the carbonate hardness of the water.
