HEISSNER Pond Aerators & Solar Pond Aerators
For biotopes, garden ponds, and fish ponds
The HEISSNER range offers both solar-powered (no mains connection required) pond aerators and mains-powered models. These systems have been specifically engineered for long-term outdoor use and are designed for various pond sizes.
An aerator is indispensable if your pond is subject to high nutrient levels, has heavy fish stocking, or if water temperatures rise significantly during the summer. By ensuring a supply of air, you'll help stabilise the water parameters and promote the biological self-cleaning process in your pond.

Operating times and synergy with your pond filter:
A pond aerator is the ideal partner for your filtration system, as the additional oxygen significantly boosts the activity of filter bacteria, noticeably enhancing biological cleaning performance. To maintain this stable effect, observe the following operating times:
- Summer & Heatwaves: As soon as water temperatures rise above 20°C, 24-hour operation is recommended. Since warm water holds less dissolved oxygen, continuous operation during heatwaves is essential.
- Fish Stocking: If your pond is heavily stocked with fish, continuous use is also advisable.
- Winter: Depending on the model, the aerator helps keep an area of the pond ice-free.
When is aeration necessary, and how does it work?
The principle is simple yet effective: an air pump directs air directly into the water via air stones. The rising bubbles improve water circulation and increase oxygen levels. You should deploy this system at the latest if you notice the following signs or have these conditions:
- You notice fish gasping for air at the surface.
- There is a heavy organic load or high levels of sludge formation.
- You stock your pond with goldfish or koi.
The strategic use of an aerator delivers a significant improvement in water quality, reduces the accumulation of organic sludge, and supports the entire ecosystem during stressful periods. Furthermore, it stabilises vital biological processes, ensuring the long-term health and clarity of your pond.
