HEISSNER Effective UV-C Pond Clarifiers
Clear pond water for biotopes and garden ponds through effective UV-C technology
Pond clarifiers from HEISSNER are the ideal choice for enhancing biological water treatment in ornamental features, fish ponds, and Koi ponds. These units have been specifically engineered to work in harmony with filtration systems and pond pumps. They facilitate effective water purification through purely physical means and eliminate the need for chemical additives.
The pond water is directed past an ultraviolet light source. This process reduces bacteria, germs, and suspended algae before the water flows back into the basin.

Operating times and maintenance for your UV-C clarifier:
To ensure your pond clarifier operates at peak performance, you should replace the UV-C bulb regularly. Even if it appears to be lit, the radiation intensity diminishes after approximately 6,000 to 8,000 operating hours. Therefore, replacing it once per pond season is highly recommended. Also, remember to clean the quartz glass sleeve periodically to ensure its effectiveness is not compromised.
Typically, the device is in use from March to October (spring to autumn), as algae growth intensifies with rising temperatures. During the winter months, you can decommission the clarifier and store it in a frost-free location.
How it works and choosing the right model:
A UV-C pond clarifier utilises ultraviolet light to alter the cellular structure of microorganisms and suspended algae. This process causes the algae to clump together (flocculate), allowing them to be mechanically removed from the water by your pond filter in the next stage. It is important to note: the device functions as a supplement to the filtration system and does not replace it!
This technology is particularly useful in the following situations:
- When dealing with acute green water problems.
- In ponds with intense sunlight exposure or newly established basins.
- As support in fish and Koi ponds that exhibit higher nutrient loads.
When making your selection, ensure that the wattage is matched to your pond volume, stocking density, and the location (shade vs. sun) of your pond.
